Every year, radio amateur radio operators across North America hit the airwaves for Field Day. Part contest, part emergency communications exercise, Field Day is designed to give amateur radio operators hone their emergency communications skills, make lots of contacts and have some fun too. Some operators participate in Field Day from their homes, while amateur radio clubs usually set up portable radios and antennas in parks and participate as a group.
