SPARC Fest is the Ham Fest organized by my amateur radio club, St Petersburg Amateur Radio Club (SPARC). This year it was held at Freedom Lake Park in Pinellas Park, Florida. The weather was kind and we had a nice cool morning and a mild afternoon.
A Ham Fest is a get-together and swap meet for amateur radio operators. It is an opportunity to meet old friends, make new friends and to put faces with the voices we have heard on the radio. Radio technology is dynamic and new equipment is often on the market. After upgrading his "shack," a ham may have surplus equipment and the ham fest is a good opportunity to buy, sell, or swap equipment.
Unlike many such events, the SPAC Fest is free -- no parking, entrance or vendor fees. The club does help offset the expenses by selling donuts, coffee, soda, SPARC Dogs and SPARC Burgers .
