Ham radio is ready to meet the need in an emergency, but the user needs to understand the way ham works. This means learning and taking the ARRL test to become a licensed ham operator through the Federal Communications Commission.I also cover the Wouxun (pronounced o-cean) KG UV-6D radios, it's programing, and a convenient way to carry all of the bits and pieces you may need to transmit over the airwaves. The radios are mid prices, (there are both cheaper and more expensive models) and I think good quality for the price. If you really want to get into the hobbie, I would suggest talking to other ham users and doing some research before you buy.
