Here on YouTube.com/NG9D we spend a lot of time fiddling around with low power (QRP) radio transmitters, simple receivers, home-made wire antennas and various little gadget kits, celebrating perhaps the best hobby in the world - Ham Radio!
In this video I test out a new 80m dipole that is lower than the one it replaced. Two Ten Tec T1380 QRP transceivers with about 3 Watt output are used in this Sunday morning test of the new antenna in QSO with QRO stations KA9S, WA9WJB and K9KEU. 80m dipole antenna coax feed point is now about 16 feet (5m) above ground, and average height of entire antenna is about 23 feet (7m) or just under one-tenth wave length on 80 meters. The Emerald Ash Borer Beetles killed our ash tree, so now the antenna is suspended from a little red maple. Using the earth as a planar reflector strengthens the signal sent at a high angle to the E-layer and works well for short path contacts on 3.5MHz. - CW annotations included.
