Biography

Old Callsigns: ZS3DP (South West Africa), V51DP (Namibia), ZS6AOD, ZS4DP, ZS1DP

I was originally licensed in 1979 in the old South West Africa (Namibia) where I had to spend my first year on the air, operating HF only on CW before I was allowed to use a Microphone. We used to have regular tropospheric temperature ducting openings on 2m into Cape Town, 800km South of my location which allowed me many simplex and repeater contacts in that area.

Currently living in Krugersdorp, Gauteng. About 24Km west of the city of Johannesburg. Both Kids all grown up now and living with their own families close by(we have 4 beautiful grand children which we are very privaleged to see regularly)

Active Member of the South African Radio League, Antique Wireless Association and the West Rand Amateur Radio Club

My HF station has been setup for remote access via www.remotehams.com for use by myself and some personal ham friends when we are travelling and away from home.

My main areas of activity in our hobby are:

HF Bottom end (80m and 40m) for local ragchewing

HF Digital DX on CW, JT65HF, RTTY and PSK

VHF weak signal work

VHF/UHF DX, Satelites and EME activities

Home brewing and experimentation
