Biography

I started in radio around 1973 while still in school.I passed the restricted ham license and got the call ZR6AIK in 1983 when I started in the telecoms industry in Johannesburg. Operation was then only on 2 metres. The next 18 years, serious SWL Dxing occupied lots of my spare time. In 2001 I decided to return to my place of birth, a small village of Villiersdorp, some 100 km east of Cape Town. I now run a small home-based electronic repairs bussiness. Callsign ZR1AIK has no more restrictions, in fact it has the same privileges as the ZS class.

Main interests incluse HF Ham DXing, amateur radio astronomy using VLF as solar flare detector as well as Jove Radio and meteor detection via FM radio. Homebrewing is very big here !!!
