Biography

Hello and thanks for visiting my page!

My name is John and I live in Sitka, Alaska. Prior to moving to Sitka, I resided in Ridgefield, Washington State.

I will QSL by QRZ, LoTW, or by mail. If you send me your paper card, I will return the favor (no need for SASE or postage).

I’ve been interested in Amateur Radio since I was a kid and I finally took the plunge, got my Technician ticket in April of 2019 and was assigned the callsign KJ7FRF. Then, in March of 2020, I tested positive for "Element 3" wink and upgraded to General Class.

In September of 2020 I applied for and was granted the callsign: W7JAL.

I can often be found on 146.52 and have begun exploring digital modes on other bands.

My equipment includes: Icom IC-7300, Kenwood Tm-281 (one as a mobile and one as a base station), and a Yaesu FT-70DR.

I use a G5RV Dipole as well as a Chameleon TD-Lite for HF. For UHF/VHF I use a Diamond X300 and a J-pole for my base unit and a Comet 5/8 wave mobile antenna. I also have an Arrow Satellite antenna for my HT. I’ve been studying up on the Amateur Satellites and make occasional contact through the birds! I also have been dabbling with SSTV and find that exciting.

73!
