Biography

Hi All,
Thanks for looking at my Bio. I go by Robert.

I received my Technician ticket 12/31/2012 and my General 1/21/2013. I always wanted to be a ham, my cousins and uncle & aunt were when I was growing up. I learned the theory but could never master the CW to pass the test back in the early 1960's. A new neighbor moved in (Eddy W6EDY {KF6PLO}) got me interested again. He's also great for putting antennas up! One of my wife's friend also is a long time ham (Bob K6WL) and had excess equipment for sale. I was in ham heaven!

I live in Morgan Hill, CA, ( with my wife Angela ). We sit about 725 ft of elevation ASL on a 5 acre parcel overlooking a local lake (water source for the community). I'm using a Yaesu "all mode transceiver" Model FT-847 running normally 100W on HF and 50W or lower on 2M, and 70Cm. For antennas, I've put up a 20 ft. mast on the roof with a Cushcraft AR-2 on top. There's also a pair of PAR Electronics OMNIANGLE OA-50 6M hortizontally polarized omnidirectial antenna stacked. I've added an HYGAIN 640 vertical to the collection. With the help Eddy (W6EDY) and Ken (Kj6kyo - free mast!)) I now have an 80/160M EFD vertical to add to my collection. And again thanks to my antenna guru Eddy (W6EDY) a Parasitic Lindenblad, where all of the antenna elements are in different planes as the purpose of the parasitic elements is to convert linear polarization to circular polarization.

Yes, digital communications, and I'm expanding my knowledge base of this "new" to me hobby. I've added FLdigi for most of the digital modess as well asWSJT-X for JT-65 and JT-9 now that I have a new IMAC running OS X 10.13.6 that can handle these modes.

Being retired I have lots of time for this and my other "hobby" of amateur wine maker. Quailwatch is what we named our little winery and vineyard because of the abundance of quail on the property.

And now I've passed my Extra as of 11/19/2013! All within a years time! And changed my call sign from KK6BKV to W6INO to signaify my hobbies.
