Biography

By day, I'm an engineer for Rockwell Collins in Melbourne, where I'm a Principal Engineer in RF design. My work is primarily receivers, and PLL synthesizers, but frequency synthesizers are now few and far between. I have spent most of my time on VHF and HF comm systems and I believe I've designed the last frequency synthesizer we will ever use in a VHF Comm receiver, and probably the transmitters, also. I also design transmitters, and modulation control loops, for VHF AM, various datalink modes, HF SSB, and most anything else from DC to around 1 GHz. These days, I'm working on our X-Band weather radar, a computer with a small but essential RF portion.

When on the radio, I enjoy DX'ing and received 5BDXCC #6714 in 2010. I worked all of that at 100 W. I also do some QRP operation, and some VHF/UHF SSB. I currently am running all bands from 160m through 450 MHz. In addition to ham radio, I'm an amateur telescope maker (why I chose ATM for my call), amateur astronomer, woodworker, home machinist, and enjoy various outdoors hobbies.

BTW, this is important: if you want to email me, put "HAM" in the subject. This email address is a "spam bucket" and if the filters don't see "HAM" in the subject, it will get dropped in the trash can.
