Hello and thanks for looking up my call on QRZ.com
Name is Don and I have been an swl since I was about 10 years old,I built crystal radios and short wave radio recievers from Radio Shack kits and that got me interested in electronics & amateur radio.Have been licensed since 1994 and I am active on H.F VHF and UHF.
I am the vice president of The Avalon Radio Amateur Club (A.V.R.A.C) here in St.John's Newfoundland.We are the official Canadian Red Cross amateur radio group in Newfoundland.Also, I am a member of Radio Amateurs of Canada.I also support the DX CODE OF CONDUCT.
My station consists of a Kenwood TS-570D for H.F.,an Icom IC290H 2m Allmode transciever,a Kenwood TM-261A 2m mobile I use daily in my vehicle,Realistic HTX202 2m & HTX404 70cm handhelds,a HTX212 2m mobile in the shack.I also just recently added a Baofeng UV5RE PLUS dual band handheld to the equipment list.Aerials for H.F.a G5RV and a 20m dipole. On VHF,a Sinclair SRL201C ground plane at the shack,Mobile,2m 1/4 wave.
Amateur radio is still and will be a viable resource for the future and it is because of amateur radio experimentation,radio and television and all forms of modern telecommuicatioms have been able to evolve and to provide emergeency backup when disaster strikes and all commercial infrastructure is compromised.73,Don.VO1XH

H.F: Rig is a Kenwood TS-570D into a G5RV antenna I use on 80 and 40m, and a 1/2 wave dipole for 2OM.VHF: 2m Icom IC-290H All mode mobile.
VHF: Mobile 2m Kenwood TM-261A FM mobile with a 1/4 wave antenna.
VHF: 2m Realistic HTX-212 FM mobile in the shack with a Sinclair SRL201C ground plane antenna.
VHF: 2m Radio Shack HTX-202 FM handheld.
UHF: 70cm Radio Shack HTX404 FM handheld.
Dual Band handheld:Baofeng UV5RE Plus,used as a scanner and for 70CM UHF mobile with a 1/2 wave Larson glass mount antenna.
