Biography

Greetings!

I have obtained my licence in 1964 in Germany and kept my call sign DL8VD until I migrated with my family to Australia in 1983.

After we settled near Brisbane Qld I have been issued the call sign VK4AS, was QRV with my Kenwood TS- 820 and a simple lazy Quad antenna that I erected on our new 5 acres property between Gum trees.

Later on I constructed a tilt mast and built a 3-band Cubical Quad antenna that I still work with today after I had to re-build it twice due to storm damage.

Because my interests are also in the field of recreational (and RC model) flying I converted my German PPL and obtained my Australian Private Pilot licence. For many years I haven’t been QRV but gave priority to full size flying my Fieseler Storch
replica.

After I quit flying with more than 2000 hours under my belt I decided its time to go back to HAM Radio and I re- discovered this probably best hobby in the world. Having dipped into some of my life savings I purchased my new Radio gear, revived my
old Quad (10,15 and 20m), added a half wave double dipole for 40 and 80m and here I am again.

Thank you for visiting.

Worked DXCCs:

Equipment

I'm using a Icom IC-7851 and a Yaesu FTdx-3000 as a back up. Recently a linear Amp."EXPERT" 1.3K from SPE has been added.

My antenna is a homebrew Cubical Quad for 10, 15 and 20m mounted on a tilt mast 42 feet AGL.
For 40/80m a half wave dipole has been hung up between two huge gum trees.
I intend to extend my Quad by another array for 6m shortly.
