Biography

Hello, my name is Bernie. I love operating on HF and I hope you do too!

My favourite part of the hobby is operating on HF. I use various modes including SSB, AM, FT8, FT4, etc... Sadly I do not operate any CW. I will learn eventually but in the mean time I do voice and digital only. I have now finally (after two years of having a ham radio license) got into VHF/UHF. I use the local repeaters and try to get on them every now and then with my HT. Which is a Pofung UV-5RIC (which was a gift from Mike VE6FXL). I have my Advanced Ham License (as of June 2023), but I still only operate 100 watts on HF and 5 watts on VHF/UHF (with my home station). However, I operate at my local club station (Calgary Amateur Radio Association) where they have large DXing antennas and amplifiers. I enjoy operating the club station in-person and remotely. The club station call is VE6AO.

That's just about all that I do in the ham radio hobby...

Thank you for the QSO,

73 and have a great day!

Worked DXCCs:

Equipment

From left to right: Toshiba Satellite M30 Laptop, Astron SS-30M, Icom IC-718, LDG Z-11ProII ATU, and a Panasonic RF-4900 receiver. I use a Heil Sound Pro-7 Headset for voice modes. I use the RigBlaster Nomic USB Sound Card for digital modes. Yes, the laptop runs windows XP on 32 bit hardware. Yet, it gets the job done at the end of the day. The HF antenna is a Chameleon random wire antenna mounted by a telescopic Spiderbeam fiberglass pole. All radios share the same antenna but only one radio can be connected at a time. My HT rests just left of the desk in its charging slot when not being used.
