Biography

SEPT / 16

Hi Folks,

I'm a pretty new Ham born and raised in Calgary, AB Canada.I used to be in broadcasting but I left that career in 1989 and went in to IT.

I got my first HT in 2013 and now own two Wouxun UVD1P's and I've now got a Yeasu FT-2800 for VHF work in the house but this going to upgraded to a better VHF/UHF base station for local work, it runs up to a ANLI A-200 6 foot fiberglass mast antenna up on the roof.

For HF work I've got an ICOM IC-745 that I have now hooked up to a LDG AT-100 auto tuner that's going out to a Alpha-Delta DX-LBPlus that gives me pretty much 10 to 160M. I've also got a Mosley TA-33Jr that's sitting up on the tower with a Yeasu 450G rotor driving it finally.

They're both sitting about 45 feet off the deck in the middle and and 16 feet at the ends of the dipole for now and it'll be going up higher eventually.

Everything runs through a APC RM2U 2200 Watt UPS that will keep everything up for hours as I need it and of course that can go off to two 6500 Watt generators to get topped up as needed.

I also have a 8900 in my Nissan Xterra that's outfitted with a Diamond 8900 antenna for HF work on 6/10M I've also got APRS in the rig that I rarely use.

There's a 1 GB computer backbone in the house for a LAN that hosts about 5 computers that are always on 24/7 and on another set of UPS's as well so it never goes down, this is one of the things geeks do for fun at home........ (grin)

I also joined ARES and SARA here in Calgary to get more involved. It's all still pretty new to me but I'm enjoying the learning part and it's a lot of fun going out and volunteering for rally's and bike rides and field days, etc. I've been volunteering for various clubs and events in Calgary for over 30 years and it's always fun!!

Cheers'
Dave Cason
