Biography

Welcome to Poland (QTH locator JO91RS). My name is Grzegorz (in Polish), but prefer to be called Gregory (on SSB) or Greg (on CW).
I started my adventure with amateur radio in 1973 in Bydgoszcz in the ham radio club SP2ZCI.
At the end of 1973, I obtained the SWL license and the registration number SP2-7638. I built my first 1-V-2 type two-tube reaction receiver.
In 1974 I successfully passed the exams and obtained my ham radio license and the SP2JDI call sign. It was then that I built my first 2-watt CW transceiver.
Using this equipment together with a 50-watt amplifier borrowed from the SP2ZCI club, I worked as SP2JDI from the Ostrowo forester's lodge (my father was a forester) for the next few years. The whole was complemented by a tank radio transmitter (Russian T-34 tank from World War II) 10-RT-26, modified in 1976, working as an SSB phase exciter.
During my studies (I am an electronics engineer) I constructed a home made multi-band CW / SSB transceiver according to the description of SP5WW. I have been working on it since 1982. Then, after changing my place of residence to the city of Łódź, I changed my call sign to SP7JDI.
At the moment of the birth of my second daughter and the intensification of my professional work, I was forced to stop and divide my work on the bands. I sold my transceiver and dedicated myself to working as the manager of the SP7KQF club.
After retiring, I resumed my ham radio activity. I am currently broadcasting using the Yaesu FT-450D transceiver and the FD-3 multiband antenna (Windom type, asymmetric dipole). Time will show what will be next :).
