Biography

Started with CB  and SWL in 1976, licenced in 2000.

Initially I had the callsign PE2KM. From Nov 1st 2021 I have the callsign PC1I

The callsign PC1I comes close to the call that was used in December 1923 by the then 18 year old Henk Jesse. He is known for making the first transatlantic QSO between the Netherlands and the USA. As radio amateurs were not allowed to use transmitters at that time he used the self assigned callsign PCII. In the night 26 to 27 December 1923, starting 4:17 UTC, he made a CW QSO with USA station 2AGB that lasted till 6:17

As I wanted a new call because PE2KM was regurarly mistaken for PE2K and PE2KMV in contests I decided to switch to PC1I, partly in rememberance for the reason above and also because I like the sound of it.
