Biography

Hi there.

My name is Ed and I am located Innsbruck, Austria. I have been a ham for the past 8 years, but only active relatively recently. My interests are in digital radio modes, both shack-based radio and portable QRP digimode radio.

Equipment

My shack voice radio is an Icom IC-7100 with an LDG IT-100 ATU, typically operated at 35 watts from a 3D printed 1/4 wave 20m dipole (designed by OE8HSR). For Digital mode SDR work, I run ELAN FDM-DUO SDR over USB to a Mac Studio with an FA-PA50 50 watts linear amp.

When going QRP as a portable station (typically at altitude), I use either a Xeigu X6100 booting Armbian (digimodes), or an IC-705 (voice). My portable antenna is either a Moonraker SPX-100 multi-band whip with a WonderWand tunable counterpoise, or a K6ARK EFRW running up a 7m Sotapole. For power away from the shack, I use a Zippy 55.44Wh/4200 LiFe-Po battery or a set of two VRURC 77Wh USB powerbricks, alternately recharging from a Nicesolar 100w solar panel, powering the X6100 via a USB-C to 12v trigger cable.

On meshtastic 868mhz non-ham mode, I run a Heltec V4 as a contributing base node for the Innsbruck area, a Heltec v3 ride node, and a Heltec 5000mAh PocketMesh carry node.
