Biography

Hi, this is Helmut from Graz in Austria. I am licensed since 1984 and working mainly on shortwave.

My actual interest is on digital modes: WSPR, FT8 and whatever else there can be decoded and which is waking my interest.

I am working on 2 sites:

Site 1 in Graz – Austria / Europe – JN77RC
This is my first QTH, from where I am on air since 1984. My IC-735 is in operation there since 1989 and is still doing a good job. - I love this transceiver !

For digital modes I am just using my laptop soundcard, which I have connected directly to my transceiver. The connection is easy and I need only 2 potentiometers to adjust output and input levels and 1 condensator to block the HF from the LF part. PTT control is done with the integrated VOX.

There are 2 shortwave- antennas in use:

1) Cushcraft R-6000 for 20, 17,15,12,10 and 6m

2) Fritzel FD4 for 80 - 10m

Both are great antennas for continental contacts as well as DXing.

Site 2 in Bad Radkersburg – Austria / Europe – JN76XQ
This is my second QTH since summer 2020 with contemporary equipment:

IC-7300 for shortwave and Yaesu FTM-400XDE for 2m / 70cm

Antennas:

1) Hy Gain AV-620 for 6,10,12,15,17 and 20m. I can also match this antenna with my MFJ-949E to 40m and 80 meters!
And there are even world-wide contacts feasible with this constellation. – What a nice surprise ! smiley
2) Diamond X30 for 20m / 70cm

3) And some experimental wires and even sometimes the balustrade of my balcony.
