Biography

My name is Richard Mekenkamp (Age 52). My first experience with radio was in 1970, when i was 4 years old. Mainly i listen to the local pirates on the mediumwave on a simple car radio when we were camping.

My first real radio was a small AM portable transistor radio, the Philips RL047 working on two AA batteries.

In 1975 i started listen to regular broadcast stations on the shortwave worldwide and began sending them qsl reports, in return i get paper qsl cards. My walls where coverd all over.

In the 80’s i uses the Grundig Satellit 1400 and a few years later in the 90’s the Philips D2999 with some longwire antennas.

Since 1990 my intrests became to listen to HF, VHF and UHF hamradiostations, all modes, all over the world. Later i started decoding digital modes. My first experiment was with the good old Tono 350 in particular for RTTY.

My home qth is called Deventer, a little country in the eastpart of the Netherlands - Europe. I live in a apartment, third floor. All of mine antennas are mounted on the balcony, at about 10 meters above the groundlevel. Despite the poor location conditions, i still have good DX!

I use DM-780, WSJT-X and SDRSharp for decoding digital modes. Loggings are done in HRD Logbook and PSK Reporter, paper-qsl can given by sending directly and i use also E-qsl
