Biography

My wife Alanna and I have made a big change. We left our 5 kids and 9 grand children behind. We just got transplanted to the "High Desert" of southern California as of August 21 2012 (or there abouts). I am a minority in these parts, a native born resident. I have been in Ohio for 38 years and although I will miss several close friends and most of all my brother in law N8IE Dan, I am pleased to be back home.

I have been interested in radio since I was a pup. I was very involved with C.B. back in the 70's and 80' and finaly made the move to Amateur Radio in 1990. I started as a Novice then moved up to Tech Plus then a few years ago I got my General ticket. I hope to move the rest of the way up sometime soon.

I also have an interest in Commadore Computers and have a modest set up that I use for packet and just having fun. I have a strong PC for my hamming desires and digital modes that I put together for myself. (With help from my good friend and brother in law Dan.)

I have been driving a truck for the past 7 years but am trying to make a move to a "real" job. I hope something good turns up. :) I need the mony to feed my radio habit...

Equipment

I am an avid digital operator. I enjoy all modes but am primarily working JT65, PSK, and Olivia. The station changes a bit frome time to time. The backbone of my station is my Yaesu FT-857 D and I also have a Yaesu 767. I just put up a 135 foot inverted V with the apex at 32 feet fed with 450 ohm ladder line to the Dentron MT 2000 or it could also be my MFJ Versa Tuner depending on my mood. The antenna seems to be working very well. I have worked Finland, Japan, Austrailia, on 12 meters just today. A few more contacts on other bands some local and some dx.

I will be putting up a Mosely 6 band 3 element on a 50 foot tower along with a M2 19XXX for 2 meter SSB and a M2 18 element for 70 cm SSB in the near future. I also have omnidirectional horizantals for 6, 2, and 70 cm to round out the system on the high end. For hf I also have a butternut HF9V vertical with 16 radials going in tomorrow. I have a large lot here (1.25 acres) and love to play with wire antennas, so who knows what I might have up later.

Other radio interests are glow in the dark radios. I have Heathkit and National radios that I love to tinker with on A.M. mostly.

I look forward to meeting you all on the air sometime soon.

DX Code Of Conduct

dx code of conduct small logoI support the "DX Code Of Conduct" to help to work with each other and not each against the others on the bands.
