Biography
Hi from South Central Pennsylvania,U.S.A.
I am just finally playing around with getting back into radio after couple on and off times in my life.
I was originally licensed as a novice in the 70s as ka3afa ,as a teen ,thanks to my dad and extra class amatuar and worked for a communications company "Clegg Radio" - some of you older ops may very well know the name in older vhf uhf from. 6 meter AM rigs to the fmdx model in 80s that was too shelf in 80s.
6 years ago I had a nice vintage Kenwood ts130 with with hf dipoles ,slopers ,loops .
A casual op but enjoyed dx as can be seen on my qrz page log and nite times collecting new states and friends on the 40 meter omiss net.
Due to unavoidable personal issues - (( discs in back ,had to go on ssdi )) however things came together ok ..sooo hopefully deal on a hf rig at a local hamfest !!
For now I enjoy copying cw on a sdr reciever , swl , especially pirate hunting around 6900 plus khz on weekends and anything else more unique and interesting.
Have the HT with homemade 5/8 wave gp outside and get way farther than expected !
I occasionally get on echolink ,good topic conferences but don't have the "real" radio feeling lol..
So step by step and hopefully won't be long youll hear my cw dx calling out - or even voice .
BTW ,while part time swl ,swlers are very underrated in the ham world ; met some very skilled antenna building ,propagation and frequency collecting etc etc- best resource ever imo is hfunderground.com - wealth of info for ALL radio enthusiast..
Ok ,73 for now ,take care ; Bob N3AFA
