Biography
Hi. Name here is Stu. I am a retired Maintenance worker for the New York City Housing Authority.Maintenance. (31 yrs.) . Teamsters Local 237. Also worked as a communications installation tech for 3 private companies. CWA lOCAL 1109.
I was introduced to the hobby in 1992 by friends KB2LQJ , KF2IC , KB2CPW and the others at the KCRA (Kings county Repeater Assn. (Brooklyn NY) and NYCRA (New York City Repeater Assn. I passed the novice and Technician class license in 1993 and because I was working my time was limited so I did not advance my license class. After Becoming disabled/retiring and moving to South Carolina I became friends with a couple of hams here KN4PZE AND KD2OJQ Lewis and Jaque. They both kinda pushed me into getting my General ticket. So I Studied for about 3 months and passed the General class test 5/7/22. I thank them both and I have learned alot more about the hobby and made many contacts around the world. Studying hard and looking to take the Extra class licence soon.
It'sgreat hobby and I have met some great people. Also I have been a volunteer with the American Red Cross of Greater NY (Staten Island chapter since 1999 with the DAT. Disaster action Team..( ERV driver)( Emergency response vehicle). Worked many disasters small and large scale including plane crash flight 587, building collapses, And 9/11 disaster , and assisting people who have had fires or floods to get shelter and further assistance, also shelter ops as needed with ham radio as a powerful tool to get info to ARES including Logistics, I am hoping to join the American Red cross of South carolina Eastern Chapter DAT team soon.
As you can see from some of the pictures I am into many things, like: collecting advertising Collecting and repairing vintage advertising and coin operated machines. and of course Ham radio. I like working DX and POTA as well. As of recently I got into RTTY and FT8 as well as DSTAR. When the bands are quiet I like to play around with the digital side but I still feel like Digital communication on ham radio is cheating. But I'll tell ya what. I'ts a great way to make contacts you otherwise couldn't normally make when living in an HOA and having limited space for antennas. I like working in my garage/shop/shack. to me itis relaxing. Always something to do. I moved to South Carolina in 2019 after living in New Jersey. I hope to get involved with some of the local clubs, meet fellow hams in South Carolina.
Special thanks to KD2OJQ Jaque for helping me get my Chameleon v2 and Chameleon 3 Dipole antennas up and tested.
