Biography

Previously M7RBE and 2E0HGA
I have been interested Short Wave Listening since I was about 13 years old when my dad bought an old BC348 HF valve radio. I used it way more than he did until I was 18. When I left school I worked as a HiFi/Radio/Audio/Tv technican for many years including a short stint at RACAL communications in Warrington, Cheshire. I moved on to be a PC Technician in 1990 and learned web, software and database development too.

Like people many I recently got back into radio a couple of years ago through SDR. I program in html, css, Javascript, jQuery, Basic, Python, VB.Net, C#.net and C. I program Windows PCs, Raspberry PI, Arduinos and ESP32. I am also reasonably experienced with Rasberry PI OS, Ubuntu Linux and Linux Mint. I did dabble in CB Radio on 27Mhz AM back in the day both using and repairing. The XYL has promised to buy me a HF project rig to overhaul, I am elated!

I have recently passed my Intermediate and hope to get my Full licenses and hope to help others in all things constructive and technical as I continue to gain expertise myself. Amatuer Radio has grown into something very special that connects people all over the world, not just via RF, but at a more organic level once you understand the implications of being part of it. Come and join in the fun. I am blown away!

I have my own Youtube channel TekMaker for all things computers, electronics and radio at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCONHzsVgD-sVC9Ga6kjg-8Q and an acocmpanying blog at http://tekmaker.co.uk

Feel free to contact me at the email address above. Best 73's and catch you down the log...

Equipment

I am currently running an Anytone AT-D878UV II Super FM/DMR and Baofeng UV-S9 triple band FM 2m/70cM and 230 mhz with a genuine Nagoya NA-771, also a homebrew 1/4 wave tripod (triple band 145mhz, 433 Mhz and 1090Mhz) ground plane antenna.

I also have an RTL-SDR v3 for VHF, UHF and HF monitoring for which I have installed and a folded 2m dipole and a 20 metre inverted long wire as my shack is on the 3rd floor!
