Biography

MY CALL SIGN IS M0NAF NOW. IT WAS 2E0NAJ AND M6NAJ when I held an Intermediate and Foundation Licenses. I have also held BB2BWP for Museums on the Air, and later this year I will run GB2SPC, for St Peter’s CHurch in my home twon, and then GB2MHR for the MidHants Railway for Heritage Railways on the air.

Retired and widowed suddenly in 2008; was Police Officer and a Inland Revenue investigator. Interested in trains and model railways, photography and history.

I am a member of Horndean and District Amateur Radio Club; and the Royal Navy Amateur Radio Society. I also belong to Raynet, a volunteer group who provide communications in event of emergencies. To keep our skill up we also provide communications for charities running such events as Marathons, walks and Cycle races in more isolated areas such as The New Forest.

Took my Foundation Licence in September 2011, my Intermediate Licence in May 2012 and have now passed my Advanced Exam and have a Full Licence 5th December 2012. New Call Sign M0NAF; 15 months from none licensed to Full License.

Worked DXCCs:

Equipment

I have recently bought a secondhand Yaesu FT-1000 which I like very much indeed. I have a Yaesu Ft 8900 for 2M working as well. I use a Yaesu Ft 897 for mobile/portable working. I do have an old Alinco DX70 which is very solid and rugged but works very well.

I use a ProWhip 10m vertical and a Comet vertical at my shack, together with an Alton Antennas long wire and Western 10. With these I find I can easily work the world.

I have a 10M, 20M and 40M whip for mobile/portable use, and also another ProWHip 10M vertical. I have an Alton Antennas 6M and 2M delta loop and they are both very efficient indeed.

I enjoy mobile working very much and I am often at Cheesfoot Head near Winchester on 2M. I also can be found running GB3RN on a Tuesday from around 100 (sometimes earlier) which is the shack of the Royal navy Amateur Radio Society. I am their Shack Manager.
