Biography

I've been a ham since 1998 and have enjoyed a variety of operating modes and aspects of the hobby. When I was in my teens I thought about getting a ham license, but there was a morse code requirement that I wasn't too excited about. Eventually, as an adult, I took the exam and entered ham radio as a no-code technician. I picked up a used HF radio and started exploring CW, and the rest is history. I love operating CW and the digital modes and rarely is there a microphone plugged into the rig.

Equipment

The transceiver is a Kenwood TS-450 SAT with all the crystal filters for both SSB and CW (500 Hz and 250 Hz). I run it barefoot and rarely above 50 watts on CW and 10 watts on the digital modes. My antenna is a homebrew hexbeam up about 40 feet for 20m-10m, and a dipole for 40 and 80m.
