Biography

Hello fellow Hams!

My name is Keith Grommes, call sign - KG1USA, living in Paso Robles, California (Wine country). I was born in Aurora, Illinois and moved from there to Oxford, Ms when I was very young. I grew up in Oxford, home of the University of Mississippi, Ole Miss Rebels. Following high school graduation in 1987 I attended college briefly before joining the Navy in 1989 to become a Navy Radioman (RM). I had a really great naval career, visited some great places and made a lot of wonderful friends.

I retired from the Navy in 2009 as an Information Systems Technician (IT) and I am currently working as a DoD contractor supporting P25 trunked radio systems/networks for the U.S. Federal Government, Department of Defense (DoD).

I'm very passionate about telecommunications, RF engineering, emergency preparedness, and therefore, Ham Radio. I only wish I had become a Ham sooner so I could have experienced the joy I am today as a Ham.

I know this is something I will do for the rest of my life. I beleive that while getting a license qualifies you a Ham; it is truly our passion,
drive, our spirit, and desire to help others which MAKES us Hams. While I am new to the Ham world, I am no stranger to passion, drive, spirit, or desire to help others. I've always been a Ham at heart, I just merely needed to take the exam.
