Biography
Welcome to my page!
If you’re reading this, chances are you heard me in a pileup or worked me in a contest. At my QTH, I operate primarily from a FT-897D with a vertical antenna. The most fun I've had recently has been operating portable with the FT-857D, and trying to earn my Worked All States award (getting close!) so look for me on the air. I'm usually on 40 through 10m, and have been participating in the ARRL and CQ DX contests and state QSO parties as time allows. My main focus right now is learning more about portable HF, though I also frequently operate 2m/70cm to support club/volunteer activities (ARES & RACES). No CW for me yet, but I have started experimenting with 2m packet and digital modes (FT8), which adds a whole new level of excitement to the hobby.
When I get out of the shack and can't be contesting or chasing DX, I serve as a Christian missionary and children's summer camp director on the Central Coast of California. Although it is not a job that will ever make me rich, ministering to God's people (primaily in rural areas), and seeing children come to faith in Jesus Christ makes me feel blessed beyond measure. Oh, yeah! I'm also engaged the most wonderful woman and ham in the whole world, K1CAB!
Hope to hear you on the air!
73 and God bless,
Dean
QSL: I love QSL cards. I upload all logs to LoTW & ClubLog but would still really like to get your QSL card, and will return the favor with one of my own. Direct QSL please.
VoIP: My EchoIRLP node uses a 0.2W trancevier located in my QTH. It isn't exactly widecoverage, and intended more for my personal use, but you're welcome to connect sometime or email me to set up a QSO. IRLP 7715, Echolink K6DPD-L (692066).
