Biography

When I got my licence and call sign DK1AB as senior high school student almost fifty years ago, I was mainly active on the 20m, 15m, and 10m bands using CW. However, due to my profession as a scientist working for industry and at the university on R&D projects that kept me busy for many years later on, my amateur radio activities had to hibernate for several decades.

The year 2015 gave me a fresh start when I applied for an amateur radio licence in Japan and got the call sign JP3MUD. My amateur radio station is located near the city of Osaka, and I am mainly active on the HF bands. Unfortunately, the location is a multiple dwelling situated in a densely built-up environment that turns out to be not the surrounding suited to put up large antennas. For this reason, I am always receptive to experiment with alternative antenna designs to alleviate the disadvantages of my location.

Worked DXCCs:

Equipment

Rig:
Yaesu FTdx-3000 (HF)
Icom ID-51E (VHF/UHF)
JRC NRD-525 as 2nd receiver (HF/VHF/UHF)

Ant:
Whip antennas and "derivatives" attached to the balcony railing located about 7 metres above ground.
