Biography

WELCOME ON MY PAGE!
My name is Paolo, I was born on April 18, 1985 in Salerno, beautiful city at about 50 Km from Naples, in the southern Italy.

Ever since I was a child I have always been attracted to the sounds that came out from old radios. At Christmas 1995, my father gave me my first CB radio as a present. I wan only 10 years old... I remained hours listening, fascinated by this strange world and all those voices coming from all parts of the city. It was great for a child to know that someone could listen without being attached to a cable! After a few years of activity (1996/2001), due to the advent of the internet and the first cellular phones, the CB remained deserted. But my passion for radio communications was still at the top. Pushed by some friends, I joined my first Radio Club: "E.R.A. European Radioamateurs Association - Salerno". It was 2001... So I decided to take exam to become OM. I received my General Authorization on July 2003, at 18 years old.
I have always been an active part of the E.R.A. Salerno, collaborating in the management of repeaters with some OM friends. I also took part in many Civil Defense events, from 2002 to 2010, like MESIMEX etc... Due to my work, since 2010, I live in Genova, in northen Italy (WW locator JN44MJ). Then my callsign was changed from IW8EYZ into IW1EYZ.

Now I' m a member of Gruppo Radio Liguria - IQ1ZW

During summer, I occasionally operate as I8/IW1EYZ from Perdifumo (SA province, WW locator JN70MG), a little village at about 450 meters a.s.l. facing the Gulf of Salerno in the National Park of Cilento, Vallo di Diano e Alburni. Here was installed my Digipeater, IR8BK, active H24 7/7 from 2011 to 01/2022. It covered the mayority of the Nord province of Salerno, and parts of Avellino and Napoli provinces.

In the last few years I have always preferred a chat with friends on the HAM bands. Lately I've been interested in the world of SSB on the VHF and UP bands and I hope to be able to cultivate this interest thoroughly. Regarding digital modes, I have always used Packet radio, and now the "neewest" FT8 to "study" and understand the ionospheric propagation and the rebounds of the signal that starts from my antenna.

So, thank you for viewing my page and hope to listen to you ON AIR again!
