Biography

Hello, welcome to my QRZ page - thanks for visiting.

I live in a place called Hanslope which is the largest village in the county of Buckinghamshire. Hanslope is just north of the new town of Milton Keynes 80 Kms NW of London. The village has a population of about 3000 and is surrounded by countryside, 3 miles from the nearest main road.

I was an SWL from 1963 (age 12) and I have been licenced since 1969 and I was instrumental in the concept, design and build of the original GB3MK 70cm repeater in the late 70's.

My interest in amateur radio dropped in the eighties and the next 30 years due to other commitments but has recently been revitalized and am now getting back into the swing.

On the HF bands I run a FT 767 GX with modules for 6M, 2M and 70cm fitted and on VHF/UHF I use a modified FT726. I am working hard on getting all modes available on all bands. The home base antenna's are a full size G5RV at 9m AGL for the HF bands and a triband vertical for 6m, 2m and 70cms together with a 2m 5 ele beam fixed pointing NW for horizontal polarisation. I am, at present, revamping my antenna system with antennas for 6m, 4m, 2m, 70cm all on a rotator. Because of size constraints I can not get a full size beam up that can be rotated so am looking to put up a cobweb for the top 6 bands and a 40m/80m fan dipole for the lower bands.

I run an Intek HR2040 in the car feeding a dual band collinear. When in the car I always monitor GB3MK and GB3NP (Towcester) and usually put a call through one or other of the repeaters if time permits.

As well as being an RSGB member I am also a member of the Milton Keynes Amateur Radio Society (MKARS) which holds its meetings on the 1st and 3rd Monday evenings at 7pm in 'TS Invincible' in Bletchley Park.

You can find me most Sunday evenings on the MKARS net @ 2000 hrs on the Milton Keynes Repeater, GB3MK on 433.00 MHz. FM. Failing that I'm usually around on 20 or 17 meters during the weekends. Whenever I'm in the car I'm usually calling through or monitoring GB3MK or GB3NP so if you hear me on please give me a call.

I can also be found operating the special callsign 'GB3RS' at the National Radio Centre (NRC) at Bletchley Park on Fridays and every other Saturday. Other interests are operating at the 'Milton Keynes Museum' during the M.O.T.A. (Museums On The Air) and at the scout 'Quarries' campsite during J.O.T.A. (Jamboree On The Air).

I have three daughters, three granddaughters and four grandsons.

Sorry, at the moment I'm not doing any QSLing untill I get some new cards.

I hope to hook up with you soon.
