Biography

First Licenced in 1983 as G6NHI, passed morse test oct 1983 and became G4VDX.
Will be 71 in this year 2019.
Like to use QRP CW using home made rigs and kits.
Now using ARDUINO and Raspberry Pi for Ham experiments.
I am limited in antenna,s due to neighbours, so no chance of any great DX.
I did however get DXCC during the 1980,s due to the very good Sun spots in that decade.
I spent time in South Africa during the late 1970,s working for THE STAR newspaper in Joburg. On return to England started work for B.A.E Systems making Jet fighters and the Air Bus.finnished at B.A.E 2004.
A bit of info on the YouKits HB 1B. 4 Band 80, 40, 30, 20.
I have blown the PA twice (Q12)due to bad coax or high SWR.
It is not possible to reduce power on the HB 1B unless you reduce volts, I suggest using a nine volt battery to tune up at lower power or use a string of dots on paddle to save PA.
Also if radio goes (DEAF) as mine did, ie no s meter bars very low sigs.
It maybe that (Q1) AND (Q7)have gone FUBAR.
Q1 and Q7 are SMD and are a pain to replace but I did it, RX ok now.
