Biography

Name is Richard, been into radio of some form since I was able to stick a screw driver in the back of a radio. Finally got licenced in 1993 with the introduction of the novice scheme, my first call was 2E1BUU, within 3 weeks of passing I passed my 5 W.P.M Morse to earn 2E0AFW, this got me on 80 meters 30 meters 15 meters and 10 meters with 3 watts CW, so since then I have loved Morse and QRP, it can always be heard in the background somewhere in my house. I finally after putting off passed my RAE, but as I had already passed 12 W.P.M and ARRL 20 W.P.M Morse I went straight to G0VCW.

I am Vice Chairperson of the Lowestoft District & Pye Amateur Radio Club, active with the 80 meter club calls contest, doing special event and generally helping out as a committee member where I can.

Hope to catch you on the air I usually reside around QRP, Fists and FOC areas

My other interests include metal detecting, photography, cooking and water colour painting.

Equipment

Main station is Yeasu FTdx 3000 for HF, Yeasu 991A for 6 through to 70cms and as my portable radio. I have a few hand helds including An Any-tone 878 for DMR, an Id-51plus 2 for Dstar. I still spend most my time on HF CW only unless I happen to hear a special call, love the local nets on 6,4,2 meters and 70Cms, I dont do FT-8 really not for me and wish more people would pick up a mic or bash the key instead of letting a computer do it all for you, not very personal and getting awards for it is pretty false in my opinion, however the hobby is blessed with having all these different modes so there is something for every one.
