Biography

Hi dear visitor.

My name is Reinhard, a German citizen living in Minsk, Belarus, since 2006. My home town in Germany is Herrsching a.Ammersee and my German Call sign is DG2MAI. During the summer season I am living on my country house about 100 km west from Minsk. The location is nearby the city of Volozhin. You may find the exact coordinates by refering to my APRS report (EW1R-13) via aprs.fi .

I received the license in Belarus in 2014. Due to limitation of antenna installation in Minsk (KO33TW), I was using mainly portable transceivers such as Kenwood TH-D72E and TM-D710. My activities included mainly Echolink and APRS. Since 2016 I have built myself a separate small house on the premises of our summer house - i call it FuVi (Funker Villa, which means villa for HAM operators), locater KO34FE.

Here I am able to work also on shortwave, mainly 40m and 20m. I am currently using a 40m long wire and a groundplane GP-1500. The equipment includes an ICOM IC-7000 and IC-7300.

Activities are APRS with Peet Bros. weather station 2100, Echolink based on svxlink software running on a Raspberry Pi 3 version.

Since 2019 I am also active on digital radio DRM. My ID is 2570018.

I received my German license in 1980 and ever since I was active in higher bands (2m, 70cm) due to antenna problems for HF. My first equipment was a Belcom 707 and a 2m transceiver from ICOM. In the early days of my activities I was rather active in RTTY and after its introduction on Echolink and APRS. The foto below shows my shack in Herrsching, Germany.

When I was 8 years old I was visiting an uncle of mine who at that time was a Ham Radio Operator, it was DJ1QR Harald. He taught me some basics about radio technology, demonstrated QSO mainly in CW with far away stations. Also he was very active on 80m. I was fascinated and startet to build the first steps of radio receptions build into a cigar case. Later I was given more instructions and the parts, so I could build a 0V1 receiver by myself. That was the beginning of my interest in this hobby.

The foto below shows my visit to Harald in the year 2003. It is sad to say but some years later he passed away. I will always keep him in mind and good memory.
