Biography

n August each year members of Christchurch ARS (see G0MUD page) activate Hurst Castle (Low) Lighthouse for ILLW, located at the end of Hurst Spit, near Lymington on the south coast of England using the callsign GB5HCL. The lighthouse(s) guard the western entrance to the Solent opposite the famous 'Needles' on the Isle of Wight. Photo shows both 'high' and 'low' lighthouses and Hurst Castle itself - an ancient fortress last extended during WW2.

The station was first operated in 2013 and has taken part regularly since then.

Kenwood TS570/TS480/Yaesu FT857, Tokyo Hypower linear, 400W to end fed wire approx 10m AGL, QRV 80/40/20/15.
