Biography

Hi

I've been a DXer & SWL since the late 1960s and have been a member of the NZ Radio DX League since 1972.

I've always had an interest in all things radio, though I've never become a qualified ham - I found the DXing hobby consumed enough money on its own :-)

These days I still tinker around with listening and monitoring, mostly with broadcast DRM and WSPR monitoring on the ham bands.

I provide four KiwiSDRs available online at kiwisdr.owdjim.gen.nz:8073 (that redirects to the others if full), and have an AOR AR7030 and RTL-SDR on GlobalTuners. I have an additional KiwiSDR dedicated to WSPR spotting.

I also run a local LPFM station, World FM (www.worldfm.co.nz) here.

I'm the webmaster and IT support for the Radio Heritage Foundation (radioheritage.com) and the DRM Reception Project (drmrx.org)

Semi-retired now, I live in the small village of Marahau, at the southern entrance to the Abel Tasman National Part, located at the northern end of NZ's South Island.

Cheers, Chris

Worked DXCCs:

Equipment

Elad DUOr & KiwiSDRs for general listening, Yaesu FRG-100 for DRM (with Dream software), KiwiSDR v1 & v2 SDRs for WSPR monitoring. RX888 MkII SDR for FT8/FT4 logging. All use the same Wellbrook ALA-1530S+ loop antenna at the moment.

For VHF/UHF listening RSP2 & RTL-SDR SDRs connected to a Diamond Discone antenna.
