Biography

Hello and thanks for stopping by. I live in North Pole, Alaska. I have been a ham operator since 1988. My father got me into it and I have been having so much fun with ham radio ever since. I hold an advanced class license (course those don't exist anymore) and currently and slowly working on getting Extra class. I have since got into VOIP stuff and have AllStar nodes built mainly running Hamvoip on AllStar node 29332 which host the Alaska morning net, seven day a week starting at 9 to 11am Alaska time. I mainly work a lot of HF. You can find me on 20 meters doing SSTV and just rag chewing on the frequencies. I like 17 meters a lot and you can usually find me there during the day. I recently got into FT8 and FT4 and been making a lot of contacts that way as well. But really, nothing beats a good old fashion rag chew. I am not much into contesting. Those I do contact with either by voice or FT8, FT4 are logged with LOTW and sometimes EQSL.

I recently got into the digital stuff of DMR, NXDN, P25 etc and been playing mostly with DMR. I am really liking the DMR stuff and you can usually find me on TG 3100 (USA Bridge). Still learning about it. I know it was a learning curve to get a digital radio programed for the digital stuff. I built a hotspot with a raspberry pi 4 and using a MMDVM dual band board with a OLED display. I have since added a nextion 3.5 inch display to it. I use a Btech 6X2 DMR/Analog radio. I do not log any DMR contacts with LOTW or EQSL. Most of my logging is done on HF.

Most of my equipment is Yaesu from the FT101E, FT102, FT1000D, FT 847. Also have a Icom 751A and a 740, Heathkit HW100. I use a 5-band 2-element Quad antenna for HF and has been awesome for 36 years and counting.

As I mention earlier I run and manage the Alaska morning net. The oldest running net local in state and on the internet. Folks world wide come to check in with with us. You can find us on AllStar 29332, 27133, IRLP 9109, Echolink wl7lp-r Node number 9191 and now on DMR TG 29332 on the TGIF network or if using Brandmeiser also TG 5029332. Come join us, we love to hear from you and chat a while. Will add more to the page later. till then 73's
