Biography
Welcome,
First licensed in 1967 as a technician class at age 15 in Lancaster PA with the call WA3HDW being active in ham radio for over 55 years. After high school accepted a position as an electronic technician with International Signal and Control (ISC), which produced Glegg ham radios. Ed Clegg (W3LOQ) was just starting into his newest design radio for 2 meter FM.
In 1980 upgraded to general class and became active on HF using a Swan 350 and home brew amplifier using four 811’s built from a basket of spare parts. In 1982 moved to Orlando FL working for a large Aerospace company.
Over the past 35 years received an enormous amount technical help from my good friend and mentor Bob KD4LIR now a Silent Key (SK). Through the years Bob has been an inspiration in helping me select the right equipment and achieve good sounding audio in the process. Bob you sure are missed.
Also received most of my antenna knowledge from my very good friend and mentor of over 25 years Greg W4TUT now a Silent Key (SK). Greg introduced me to horizontal Phased Arrays. Over the years I have used Phased Arrays on several HF bands with great success. Greg, miss you every day.
In 1990 upgraded to Advanced Class License and became very active on 40 meters. In 2004 left Florida and moved to San Diego working in the Defense/Aerospace industry. Continued to be active in ham radio on 40 and 75 meter SSB using a Kenwood TS-950SDX and AM using a Johnson Viking II transmitter and matching VFO.
In 2006 moved back to the east coast still working in the Aerospace industry.
Retired in 2016 from the Aerospace industry.
In February 2019 moved to the Myrtle Beach South Carolina area, enjoying retirement.
My wife Jeanna and I founded and operated International Antenna Corporation starting in 1992 later changed to International Antenna Company (IAC) from 2010-2019. IAC featured the Double Bazooka line of HF Ham Radio antennas. We enjoyed serving the ham radio community for over 27 years providing high performance HF antennas. Several pictures of our booth at Dayton below. During that time we met so many great people. We were proud to work with Bob Heil K9EID (SK) setting up his 80 and 40 meter Double Bazooka Phased Arrays. IAC antennas were featured on several Ham Nation episodes. In late 2019 we decided to close the company & enjoy retirement.
