The previous holder of my current call [w8nsi] is KI7BM John Branch. He held W8NSI back in 1955, then relinquished it to become K1SLR which is also vacant at this time. His current call has an almost musical cw swing to it.
The call sign W8NSI was vacant for over 40 years before I dropped WB8NSI to become W8NSI. I figured that 40 years was a decent waiting period for an idle call sign. :) [hint: There are thousands of vacant W, K and N prefix 1x3 calls out there guys.]
I operate on 160-10 and will be putting up a 5 element 6 meter beam this summer to get back on the magic band. I'm also on 2m and 70cm fm.
My hf operations for some time have mostly been on MARS frequencies outside the ham bands. I am now using WSJTx and am playing with JT65 and JT9 which has gotten me back into the hf ham bands.
My first hf jt9 contact is KG4OXA. I contacted WO0KEE on jt65 too. If you want to work a wook, look for him. :) [If you do not understand this, go watch star wars :)]
I have just been bitten by the MotoTRBO bug. We have an active uhf TRBO community here. I bought a XPR4550 mobile and am buying a 6550 handie talkie, both on 70cm. I finally got my 4550 and 6550 rigs programmed. TRBO mode is fun.
I have a DVDongle and like to look around the DStar reflectors.
