Biography

I have been licenced since early 2013. I started off with the Foundation level and in late 2013 moved up to Advanced level. For 11 years, I had a VK6KHO call sign. Since 6th Oct 2024, I got my new call sign (VK6KH).

My main interests are in electronics, computers (both hardware and software) and amateur radio. Even though, I only acquired amateur radio licence in 2013, my interest in amateur radio goes back to 1976 (my high school days). I am a keen home brewer. I have built an 80 to 10m bands SSB QRP transceiver (10 w output), a manual and an automatic antenna tuners (both 100W), a 500W PEP dummy load, a digital SWR and power meter, two antenna analysers, a dip meter, four HF/VHF antennas and many other projects.

Equipment

My main transceiver is a Yaesu FT-950. I also have a Kenwood TS-50s, and Xiegu G90. For VHF and UHF, I have TYT TH-9800, ICOM IC-400PRO. I also own a Anytone AT-D878UV Plus DMR Dual Mode Digital HT, and few Baofeng HT. I use MFJ-941E antenna tuner (ATU) and homebrew ATU with an End Fed and inverted V antenna.

For mobile use, I own a JPC-7 (dipole) antenna and a JPC-12 (vertical) antenna for 40 to 10m bands. I also own an OPEK HVT-600 (80 to 2m) multiband mobile antenna.

Currently, I have four operational antennas. The main antenna is a 16.2m long End Fed in inverted L configuration. The second one is a three bands traped dipole (20m, 15m and 10m) in inverted V configuration. The third antenna is three bands trapped vertical (20m, 15, and 10m). And for VHF and HF is a Diamond X-50 (2m and 70cm).

I own a Siglent 1.5GHz Spectrum and Network Analyser, Siglent 100MHz quad channel oscilloscope, A Tektronix quad channel 100MHz old school oscilloscope, Owon 100MHz dual channel oscilloscope, NanoVNA (with EMC probes and log periodic Antenna), TinySA Ultra, homebrew SNA, RF power meters, RF and AF signal generators, Frequency Meter, many types of multimeters including clam on, earth leakage tester, many types of DC power supplies (both linear and switch mode), two dip meters, three types of soldering stations, homebrew dummy loads (500W), switched and digital attenuator.
