Biography
My name is Jay, VK4JK. I have been licensed since 1989. Initially as VK4PJK while living in Donnybrook Qld,where I grew up. After upgrading to Advance and becoming VK4JAY in 2006. In 2008 I applied for VK4JK.
My QTH is Adelaide South Australia, Which is about 16 Miles North of Adelaide, the Capital city of our State. Our local suburbs were established for migrant workers to live, while being employed at the local Holden car manufacturing Plant.
Holden closed its last Australian car manufacturing plant in Adelaide on October 20, 2017, which was the final day of local car production for the company. The closure of the Elizabeth assembly plant ended 69 years of vehicle manufacturing at that site, although Holden continued as an imported vehicle brand until it ceased trading in late 2020.
I operate HF. Making the most of 10,20,30 and 40 metres, chasing DX.
As you will see, I am quite fond of the older Hybrid Transceivers.
These radios are simple, direct to the point, and not pretentious in any way. There are no menus, no memories, no CPUs, no DSPs, and there is nothing the radio does, that you need in the course of operating, that you can’t control from the front panel.
If you have messed with modern transceiver's, you will know how frustrating it can be to do simple things which require you to access the elaborate memory system and the multi-function buttons.
All dials and knobs on the Yaesu Hybrids have one function clearly labeled, and at your fingertips. It’s not the modern radios are not fine pieces of ham radio gear – it’s just that sometimes simpler is better, less is more, and you just need to take a rest and enjoy yesterdays technology. And let's face it, Real transceivers glow in the dark!
This is why we have collected a few YAESU Hybrids.
