Biography

Hello, and thank you for looking me up. Below is my story in Ham Radio.

In March 1990 I obtained my novice call VK3NIG and in December that same year I gained my Full Call theory giving me the combined license (Novice CW speed with Full-Call theory) with the call VK3KSD. In 1998 I took an 8 year break from the hobby.

In 2006 I was active again and found many changes in the hobby but was most interested in the digital mode D-STAR. Getting myself an Icom ID-1 I played with data modes on 1.2Ghz with fellow ham Mick VK3CH. D-STAR quickly became a mode I enjoyed most. In September 2008 I gained full call level, now known as Advance, and the change in call to VK3GY. The ex-owner of this call Gary (Now VK3ZP) was our neighbour for many years when I was a teenager. Gary showed me his restored Collins gear, and this rekindled my interest in amateur radio. Now having Gary's old call of VK3GY has a sentimental memory for me.

I also have a marine radio Operator's Certificate of Proficiency aquired back in 1976, from the good 'ol boating days, and now listen to marine VHF just for listening interests only.

Recently moved from Warragul to Lang Lang in early 2023 and slowly getting the modest shack back together.

Please Note: My QSL is 100%: LOTW, eQSL, HRDLOG.net, QRZ.com logbook and direct QSL
