Biography

A short history.

I was first licenced in July 2013 as a Foundation class station with the callsign VK2FRNK. I decided that within 2 years i would be a full call operator and in September 2013 passed my Standard class certificate and gained the callsign VK2HFS. What followed was 18 months of study culminating in my passing the Advanced Amateur Operators Certificate of Proficiency in March 2015 and receiving the callsign VK2BFC ( which was also my SK Fathers call).

As both a foundation and standard station i was active on air in contests and working DX. I logged more than 800 contacts as both Foundation and Standard licencee. All using modest equipment and antenna systems.

I am a member of the North east vic amateur radio club (NEVARC) and serve as club secretary and QSL Manager.

My Station
My station is mainly Yaesu equipment FTdx3000 and FT-950 and has so far managed to gain me the 1st place in the VK2/QRP section of the 2013 RD contest , over 300 points in SOTA , eDX & eAustralia awards from eQSL.cc and contact a fair amount of regular and rare DX .
Including EP6T (iran) , T33A (banamba Isl), A41KJ (Oman) , K1A (Wake Island), ZL7E (Chatham Island) , K1N (Navassa Island) and VK9DLX (Lord Howe Island).

I am a member of the Wireless institute of Australia ( WIA ), The american radio relay league (ARRL ) and the Radio society of Great Britain (RSGB ).

I have achieved the DXCC, WAC, Oceania DX Award, WIA Grid square award and over 200 FT8 and digital mode awards which can be viewed on my website.

Worked DXCCs:

Equipment

A Yaesu FT-dx3000 is my primary radio with a Yaesu FT-950 as backup. I also have a Yaesu FT-818 for portable work.

My antennas are a MFJ-1846 Hex Beam and GAP titan DX and a variety of dipoles and homebrew verticals.

On 2m/70c i have a Yaesu ftm-400 and an anytone uv578.

Power for the station is supplied from an ICOM PS-300 30A supply. On the test bench i have a 15A home brew linear supply with seperate 13.8 and 5V supply lines.

The FT-950 and ftdx3000 are CAT controlled by Ham Radio Deluxe which i also use for logging.
I use a HP Opto-Core PC with 32Gb RAM and 32Gb Video Ram on an NBN Internet connection for digital modes ,logging and cat control.

DX Code Of Conduct

dx code of conduct small logoI support the "DX Code Of Conduct" to help to work with each other and not each against the others on the bands.
