Biography
I was first licensed in Winnipeg at age 15 in 1962 as VE4RW. Active calls held VE4MJ and VE3BZR although I have held several less active calls over the years.
I am retired. I worked for the Canadian Department of Transport as a Radio Operator for 22 years at various locations from Resolute Bay NWT to Canadian Coast Guard Headquarters in Ottawa, with four years' leave to serve as the president of the Canadian Association of Professional Radio Operators. I then worked in Ottawa as a labour negotiator for 11 years up to my retirement.
I can be found chasing DX on HF CW or chasing states on 6M FT8. I was on the hamsats for a few years but have not been on lately.
Currently running a K4D KPA500 to a hex-beam or a 40M dipole and I have 6M/3 elements on my deck.
Equipment
I have a K3 (ser nr 1309) and a KPA500 amp. I use an old Icom IC-821 with preamps on the satellites.
My antennas are a 40M dipole and a hex-beam. I have a 3el Yagi currently mounted on my deck. For satellites I have an az/el rotator with 7elements on 2M and 10elements on 70cm
