Biography

I'm Anthony van Hamond, and I'm thrilled to introduce myself as a newcomer to the world of amateur radio. I recently passed the HAM Novice exam on October 24, 2023, and now proudly bear the call sign PD2HVT, a nod to my hometown, Hoogvliet Rotterdam.

Born in Rotterdam in 1980, my lifelong interests have revolved around electronics, art, and technology, and HAM radio perfectly blends these passions.

My immediate goal is to obtain my Full HAM radio license by the end of 2024, making it a rewarding project for the coming year. Beyond radio, my hobbies include painting, drawing, electronics, 3D printing, model making, and a keen eye for photography. You can catch glimpses of my creative projects on my Instagram account, where I go by the handle Hamond art

I have a history with radio technology that dates back to 1993 when I recieved my first transmitter from my father,– a Betatek 3000 CB radio that I modified to emit 5 Watts of power. I still own this radio. However, my rekindled interest in HAM radio began when I acquired an SDR-RTL dongle by accident. This versatile tool rekindled my curiosity, leading me to experiment with NOAA weather satellite image reception. show me some of the endless possibilities in the HAM radio world.

Currently, I'm eagerly anticipating a home renovation (on hold because GOV found protected bats living in the roofs). Once the work is completed, I'm excited to set up my HAM radio station and make it fully operational. With a diverse set of interests, some dedication, and a growing fascination with amateur radio, I look forward to experiences and explorations in this captivating HAM radio realm!
