Biography

On April 1, 1982 I became a member of the VRZA. My interest was aroused by listening to the 27Mc frequency. I thought that was too limited after reading several books about radio amateurism.

The hobby offers more, including building your own transmitter/receiver, but also antennas. Since I don't have an electronic background, I decided to limit myself to listening.
My first receiver was a Century 21D (Löwe SRX30D), with digital readout. I used it for a number of years until a short circuit occurred. The readout was dead and repair was not possible. One was offered on Ebay and since March 8, 2016, it has been in the house. That's how the hobby started! My second receiver is a Racal 217D, which was sometimes on day and night.

The antenna I am currently using is a dipole antenna of 2x10 meters.

For me, the internet is the solution to answer certain questions.

By the way, I now spend more time on the hobby because I retired with 010116. I found a place in the attic. Between 1982 and now I listened to the receiver intermittently, most of my time was taken up by my work and family obligations.

I noticed that a lot has changed in the hobby in all those previous years, the possibilities are endless and the computer takes a central place. Fortunately, the computer doesn't hold too many secrets for me and that helps.

I no longer send QSL cards, I use Eqsl.cc.

In contrast to using the computer, I have become a lover of old tube receivers. My last purchase (February 2014) was a Collins R-390a receiver that looks and works like new. The first hours of listening amazed me. I can now confirm the praising words that were previously written about this receiver. It is an excellent receiver that I enjoy listening to.

I wish everyone a lot of fun with the hobby. `73 Ronald
