Biography
Hello, my name is Philippe or just "Phil". I'm licenced since 1993. After passing my exams I got my first callsign ON1AHC. The next few months I studied my morse code and I passed my test to become a fully licenced operator. I've been on the air for a few years with the callsign ON4BAW and now I go by OR5A. My qth is situated aprox. 50 kilometers north east from the capital Brussels in the northern central part of Belgium.
Main radio interests are chasing dx, occasionally participating in major contests and experimenting with different antenna systems. I'm mostly active on 10 to 20 meters. Also 6 meters got my interest and I make contacts on a regular base on 40 and 80 meters to. Mostly on SSB or CW, occasionally on RTTY or PSK31. Since 2010 I installed a half wave dipole for 30 meters to work some CW DX on 10 Mhz.
My main shortwave transceiver is an Icom IC-7410. The IC-7410 is integrated with my top band antenna is an Ultrabeam 6-20 meters full size 4 element dynamic yagi for 20/17/15/12/10 meters with 6 elements for 6 meters. My Acom 2000a automatic amplifier provides enough power to burst pile-ups. I have a second amplifier, the new Acom 600S solid state that helps me on 6 meters to and is my backup and go everywhere amplifier.
Due to tower restrictions I can't raise the yagis above 60 feet. Lower band antennas for 30 to 80 meters are simple inverted-v dipoles at present time.
I upload my logs only to LOTW, Clublog and eQSL on a regular basis. After 20 years I stopped collecting paper qsl cards.
