Equipment
Keep everything as simple as possible - but not simpler:
I like using minimalist Equipment.
For digimodes I use a pocket-PC, which once was a mobilephone. It works like a VERY MODERN interpretation of a morse key, sending PSK or some other digimodes. SWITCH ON - AND WORK. Immediately. It also works great when mobile.
My Yaesu FT-897D is driven by a homemade power supply or when mobile by good PB accus (good capacity and lightweight).
I also use a Yaesu FT-817ND when mobile
or a Kenwood TS-50S in my car on an outback antenne (ca. 2m short) on car roof...
At home (due to problems mit my landlord):
As Antenna I use a plastic waterpipe (Ø 25mm and 0.25mm AL reinforced) transformed to a magnetic loop antenna Ø 80cm. This antenna works great. It is not mounted permanently but on an old camera tripod and can easily be moved to any place/direction.
Remotely tuned by variable capacitor/stepper controller, homebrew.
I mostly use it INDOOR and it even works fine there (40m...10m).
