Biography
I was first licensed as WN3FNT in Greenville, PA in 1966 at the age of 15. I have also held the following calls over the years: WA3JDT, WB8FAR, WN8BRF, WD8BRF, N8CMZ, and now N8QE. I have held Extra Class since August 2007.
I love 6 & 10 Meter QRP SSB/CW/FT8 because antennas are minimal, and it's lots of fun. I do work all bands from 160M to 70CM at times of my choosing though.
I was a Trustee & Treasurer for the Portage County Amateur Radio Service which is a very active ham radio club. The current picture is Myself, and Ed - K8IV in the background operating the FYAO "Freeze Your Acorns Off" QRP mid-winter club special event contest which we won. We definitely were having fun that day.
I belong to the following Ham Radio Groups: QRP-ARCI #3014, 10-10 International #55415, SMIRK #6760, QCWA #33362, Flying Pigs QRP #1795, and EPC #3048 plus the ARRL and I am a VE. I have qualified for WAS & DXCC, and have about 213 countries worked.
I hold an Electrical Engineering degree from Youngstown State University. I retired after 33 years with General Electric in March 2007 from their Lighting Business Group where I finished my career as Manager - Manufacturing Engineering & Product Quality HID Lighting. I followed that by working for DX Engineering in a Technical / Sales Support Role from March 2009 to October 2019 before retiring again.
