Biography
I've been interested in radio since I was young. I loved to look through the Radio Shack and Allied Electronics catalogs my dad used to get. I started listening to SW on a Lafayette Explor-Air Mark 7 on a long wire out my bedroom window.(I still have that radio!) During the "Cold War" days, it was great fun listening to Radio Moscow and Radio Havana. When I got out of college, I worked in the broadcast field as a DJ for 10 years. I took a job in law enforcement and retired after 25 years on the job as a Detective but my interest in radio never faded.
I also like to fix up old tube radios from the 1930's to the 1950's both broadcast and amateur. I really enjoy bringing the old radios back to life again!
DXing is my major interest but I do like to ragchew once in a while. I operate CW with a keyer and straight key besides SSB. I am working on my 5 Band DXCC and currently have DXCC on 10,15,17 and 20 meters as well as Mixed, CW and SSB. My main challange is80 meters.but I'm getting close! Thanks to all who responded with their cards!
The shack consists of an Elecraft K3 and a K4KIO 5 band Hexbeam on top of the garage. I also have a Carolina Windom from Radio Works for 30,40 and 80 meters and a TenTec Hercules 2 amp. I love the Hexbeam. I've worked alot of DX with it and can hear so much more than with just a dipole.
