Biography

I received my first license in high school back in the 1990's. I started with the tech-no code license but eventually upgraded to tech plus, then to general class the next year. I enjoyed some local repeaters around the St Louis Missouri area but once I bought my first HF rig I found how enjoyable CW could be. As I finished high school I started a family and took a long break from the hobby, eventually selling my gear.

In early 2020 the kids were growing up and I was looking for a hobby. I didn't have much money to spend initially but I ordered a 40 meter QRP Labs QCX single band CW transceiver kit. Took about a week to build it and I was back on the air. Thankfully I had kept my license renewed over the years. After beginning the task of re-learning CW (which I found much easier the second time) I was once again hooked and began diving back into ham radio. Lately, I've been having a blast building rigs and accessory equipment.

I'm currently active in my local ham club as a board member and station trustee. I'm also improving my contesting skills as well as my station. I enjoy chasing DX, POTA, QRP and weak signal work, and building antennas and equipment. I'm active on most modes, and on most HF bands.

Worked DXCCs:

Equipment

Kenwood TS-590SG, Yaesu FTDX-10, Ten-Ten OMNI A and D, Hallicrafters FPM-300, Icom IC-7100 and Elecraft KX2. Also have a few HT's. I have a Yaesu FL-2100B amplifier which I rarely use. Antennas are a DX Commander, End-FED Halfwave, End-fed Random Wire, 40 meter Delta Loop and a few portable wire antennas for POTA work. I love having options!
