| Biography Just licensed in 10/01/23, so be gentle folks!!
Recently retired after 20+ years on the Railway, 5 years as a Private Investigator, 15+ years as a Horticultural Buyer and Salesman a job that took around the world, and short stint as a Truck Driver, which was great fun.
The radio interest is because after I left school I became a TV & Radio Engineering Apprentice studying City & Guilds D224 Electronics Servicing at Carshalton College.
I was the last Apprentice at, the long gone, Maurice Richards LTD in Leatherhead Surrey.
Also had a healthy interest in AM and SSB CB at this time, late 70's, Early 80's, fixing, installing and moding rigs etc.
Picked up a CB set for £20 about 18 months ago, had a tinker and a play, after a few Stateside contacts was hooked again. Looked into getting properly licensed and pleasantly surprised now much knowledge I'd retained when looking at the tests.
Took my test through Kelvin at Worthing Amateur Radio Club and passed.
Have had great fun with the hobby talking to like minded folks around the world.
I transmit 15 meters from the beach I over look from my house.
So whilst I'm restricted to 10 watts the take off is amazing.
Can be found on 10m atm, using my Alinco DX-10 and Sirio 145 aerial that is mounted on the car.
Also use a Xiego G-90 on 20m, 40m and 10m.
Ampro Hamsticks are the current aerial for me.
Just optioned a JNC Radio MC-750 portable aerial and early results when set up in the garden are very promising!! |
